The energy of raw acoustic sound is bound to fill the Student Union on Saturday night. Rambling Bones is the solo project of Jay Bones, front man of popular South African punk band Fuzigish.

He is performing four shows infour days, starting in Bloemfontein and passing through Port Elizabeth and East London. Grahamstown is his last stop.

When Fuzigish took time off after performing for over a decade, Jay travelled around the country with his acoustic guitar.

When he returned home, he realised that he had enough material to record an album. The solo project that would become Rambling Bones grew from there.

“It was a pretty natural thing and I am really enjoying it, because it is really all about song writing,” he says.

“It is also cool in a sense that it is a very honest approach to music but also retains the great energy.” He describes Rambling Bones as his alter ego.

Fuzigish has performed in Grahamstown  before, but it will be Jay’s first time here as Rambling Bones. “I’m looking forward to returning and  meeting lots of new folks,” he says.

Rambling Bones will perform some of his Fuzigish favourites in addition to his new material. Jay says that Rambling Bones’ debut album Watching and Waiting has been well received, but that these shows will help to promote the album in parts of South Africa where he has yet to perform.

“Touring is what it is all about, and I love playing shows,” he says. “It was a cool chance to get to this neck of the woods.” Students can catch  Rambling Bones at 7.30pm. Cover charge is R20.
