The team travelled to Graff-Reinet where they played four matches in the league, also facing the then log leaders Everton from Aberdeen.
The local women’s side went on a scoring spree, as they went on to score no less than 14 goals in three matches.
In their first game of the weekend, African Connections were to face Young Teenagers from Hankey, but the teens didn’t pitch up so African Connections were awarded walkover points.
They then went into the afternoon match against Everton under pressure as they needed a win to take over the top spot, while Everton needed only a draw.
Chris Totobela, African Connections coach and manager, said the side played well with the young players in the team playing surprisingly well. African Connections went on to win the match 2-1.
As part of the new South African Football Association law, the district leagues must have at least five U17 players on the field at all times.
On Sunday morning, African Connections beat Moroko Eagles from Graaff-Reinet 4-0 and in the afternoon went on to thrash Spandau from Graaff-Reinet 8-0 for the highest win of the 2009/2010 league so far.
African Connections now lead the log for the first time this season, after playing three matches towards the end of last year, when they won two and drew one match to occupy second place on the log.
With AC leading with 19 points after seven matches, Everton, with a game in hand, are in second spot with 15 points.
Totobela said the matches were played in extremely hot conditions and he was happy with his side’s results, as they played two games on Saturday and two on Sunday in the heat.
