A man accused of murdering a Kenton-on-Sea businessman briefly appeared at the seaside town’s Magistrate Court yesterday (Thursday).

The 25-year-old man was arrested in East London two weeks ago, exactly three weeks after he was allegedly involved in the murder of Kenton-on-Sea Kwik Spar owner Juan Jansen.

On November 23 Jansen was killed in broad daylight in the small seaside town while walking to the bank to deliver money. It was reported that robbers demanded money from Jansen, shot him in the leg, and then shot him in the chest when Jansen threw the money at them. The suspects then fled the scene.

The murder shocked the small coastal community. According to residents, this was the first crime of its kind.
Members of the community said the suspects, who are from Port Elizabeth, were visiting their brother in Kenton-on-Sea when they committed the crime.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender said police are still investigating.
