The 2010 Spec-Savers Ironman 70.3 South Africa has officially closed entries with a record of 2 000 individual athletes and 77 teams registered to take on the challenge on 17 January.
The 2010 Spec-Savers Ironman 70.3 South Africa has officially closed entries with a record of 2 000 individual athletes and 77 teams registered to take on the challenge on 17 January.
Ironman media contact, Gail Faiers, said “This is a massive 56% increase on last year’s registration stats.” Among those who have entered are over 20 athletes from Grahamstown who have been in full swing with their training.
The event consists of a 1.9km sea swim, 90km cycle and a 21.1km run.
Also on the starting line will be the 2009 champions South Africa’s Raynard Tissink and Lucie Zelenkovaof the Czech Republic. Both these athletes have spent the last year competing all over the world and are eager to keep their hands on the crown in Buffalo City.

The Grahamstown athletes who took part in the Development Triathlon/Duathlon on 6 December are:
