The murder of a Kenton-on-Sea businessman has left the community of the small coastal town reeling in shock.

Captain Mali Govender said three vehicles were identified leaving the crime scene and police are still hot on the trail of the men believed to have been involved in the murder.
It is reported that Jansen (33) was walking towards the Kenton branch of Standard Bank to do his daily banking on Monday morning. He was holding the hand of his wife, who is five months pregant with their third child, when two armed men pounced on them, shooting him in the leg. It is reported that, in an attempt to deter them, he threw the money bags he was carrying at the men. Yet, with the money in hand, the men shot Jansen in the chest before fleeing the scene.
Govender said eyewitnesses saw the gunmen climb into a white Nissan sedan. The other two vehicles believed to have been used are a silver-grey Isuzu double cab -which was spotted heading in the Port Elizabeth direction- and a blue Toyota Corolla.
Meanwhile, Grocott’s Mail spoke to businesses and locals who were obviously still shocked by the murder. Walter Kitcat of Sea Cottage Estates said: “The community is deeply shocked that he lost his life. He did a tremendous job upgrading his business. This is the first time that we have had a crime of this kind.”
Roy Maclean of The Local pub, restaurant and sports bar said: “Everyone is quite shocked. We are not expecting something of this nature.”
A source from Port Elizabeth informed police that there were people who were visiting a relative in Kenton whom police strongly suspect are linked to the murder.
Kenton-On-Sea resident Mziwanele Wapo described Jansen as a kindhearted man. “The whole community was deeply shocked by this. It is unacceptable. He was supportive to the community. He was a promising young businessman. He made great transformation at KwikSpar when he took over as owner. Our community has lost a good man.”
Another resident Sandile Kom said the Kenton community is working with the police in order to catch “the heartless thugs”. He said: “Everyone is saddened by this, the community is working with the police so that these thugs can be caught. We are hoping that they will be caught by the end of this week. Juan was a good man. He did not deserve to die like that.”
Govender said no arrests have been made but police have intensified patrols in the area.
