Reynolds was found dead with a gunshot wound in his head on Monday, 9 November in his room at his friend’s farm, Boskeydell Farm.
Grahamstown SAPS spokesperson, Captain Milanda Coetzer said they discovered a hunting rifle after conducting an hour long search at the farm and the weapon was taken to Port Elizabeth for ballistics testing. She added that the investigation was very sensitive and therefore she could not elaborate much on the matter.
However, Grocott’s Mail received information that the rifle was found in a rainwater tank at the farm together with two cellphones but police could not confirm this. Jeremiah Yengeni, the farmworker who had discovered Reynolds’ body, said "I saw blood on the carpet, the curtains and the bed when I was in the doorway. He was lying on his side facing the door. The blankets covered him up to his torso. He was not wearing anything on his upper body. I got the shock of my life.”
He said: “Everyone is a little uneasy about this because the police have not caught the murderer yet. I was very stressed out when the police targeted me, asking me questions as if I had something to do with Andrew’s death. Last Saturday they came around and searched all the rooms. They told me I was not the only one being investigated.
“I will not leave the farm until this is over. I am supposed to go home to Port Alfred but I cannot stay there for long because the police are still investigating.”
It is believed that during the search last Saturday, police found a jersey with blood on it in one of the farm employees’ rooms. Some of the farm workers Grocott’s Mail spoke to said the owner of the jersey had been involved in a fight a few days before Reynold’s death and that "the blood could be the result of that,” according to Yengeni.
Meanwhile, the security guard who was supposed to be on duty the night before Reynolds was murdered had reportedly submitted a note excusing him from his duties. The doctor’s note was given to Yengeni who was supposed to hand it to Reynolds the following day. Yengeni said the sick note was from a clinic and had both the names of the security guard and his girlfriend who is also employed at the farm on it.
A source close to Reynolds said police have asked every person who has visited Boskeydell since the deceased started living there to have their fingerprints taken. No arrests have been made.
