Following the launch of Cacadu District Municipality’s (CDM) Seven Wonders of our World campaign earlier this year, the CDM has embarked on an initiative intended to further showcase these unique destinations.
Following the launch of Cacadu District Municipality’s (CDM) Seven Wonders of our World campaign earlier this year, the CDM has embarked on an initiative intended to further showcase these unique destinations.
Photographers (whether amateur or professional) are called upon to submit a snapshot to be published in a book on the district.
These may be taken within Addo, Baviaans/Gamtoos Valley, Grahamstown, Jeffreys Bay/St Francis, the Little Karoo, the Sunshine Coast and Tsitsikamma.
The coffee table book, aptly named Landscapes & Legends, will feature 30 photographs of each of the seven wonders, with each photographer receiving R300 per photograph.
The Photojournalism Department of Rhodes University has been assigned with the responsibility of judging the entries.
In view of the expected influx of tourists during the Fifa 2010 World Cup, the CDM are aiming to create as many possible ways to showcase these beautiful areas, which stretch from Nieu Bethesda in the north to the Indian Ocean in the south and between the Bloukrans River in the west and Great Fish River in the east.
“What better way to promote our beautiful area than through the visual impact of our natural surroundings captured by local photographers?”said Wendy Fisher, project manager of Tourism Development and Marketing at the CDM.
Landscapes & Legends will be published as a 160 page hard cover book that intended to inspire conversation about the area, while it will ultimately be used as a tool to draw even more visitors to the area and further promote all the area has to offer.
