The Makana Local Football Association (LFA) pre-season soccer tournament kicked off at the end of October and has already produced a number of upsets.

Local soccer side, Pioneers, who are currently playing in the Safa Cacadu SAB Regional soccer league, lost one of their round robin matches to a lower league team.

The tournament also includes teams from Alicedale and Riebeeck East, who are currently playing their round robin fixtures together. Teams taking part in the Grahamstown section include sides from the Makana LFA Metropolitan and Development league, as well as the Cacadu teams.

The tournament continued this past weekend with the round robin matches. The round robin matches continue tonight and tomorrow (Wednesday), with the quarterfinals being played on Thursday. All the Grahamstown section matches take place at JD Dlepu Stadium.

After the quarterfinals, the top four Grahamstown section winners will come up against the top four Alicedale/Riebeeck East sides over the weekend. Chris Totobela, vice president of the Makana LFA said they hope to finish off the tournament on Saturday.
