From small noisy, partitioned classrooms to spacious classes! This is what the learners and teachers of Good Shepherd Primary School have been eagerly anticipating.

The school has 244 learners in total, who have all been squeezed into partitioned classes, causing high noise levels and restricting many teaching activities. But since the construction of a new block of classrooms commenced in March this year they have had lots to look forward to. The new block will include new toilets and four classrooms on each of the two storeys.

The funds were raised by the Good Shepherd Trust, which approached Petro SA for sponsorship, who agreed to fund the building of the school as part of their community outreach project.
The principal of the school, Prudence van der Linde said "I think this is the best thing that could have happened in the history of this school."

She said that the they expect to hold an official opening as soon as the new classes are ready "and that could be at the beginning of the first term next year" she said. Johan Meyer of Dup Meyer Builders said the deadline for completeion is 18 of November and they have kept to the style of the original, historical stone school building.

Van Derlinde also mentioned that when they move to the new block of classes the old blocks will be renovated and used as an administrative block, kitchen, library and hall. When the building is completed a garden and sport fields will be layed out. "Life will change for Good Shepherd learners, parents and for the teachers," said Van der Linde.
