The South African Football Association (Safa) Cacadu SAB Regional soccer league is in full swing with some teams already playing their seventh match this past weekend.

Two Grahamstown teams, Grocott’s Mail Eleven Attackers and Phoenix Pioneers are part of the eight teams making up the Stream A section of the league.

Two Grahamstown teams, Grocott’s Mail Eleven Attackers and Phoenix Pioneers are part of the eight teams making up the Stream A section of the league.

The 2009/2010 league kicked off in August with some of the teams concluding their first round fixtures. The current leaders are Teenagers from Kenton-on-Sea with 13 points after five games.

Young Chiefs (Bushman’s River) are second with 12 points after five games. Young Chiefs are the newest club in the Cacadu A Stream. After winning the Ndlambe league, they went on to win the SAB Regional League play-offs, thus qualifying for the Cacadu league.

Eleven Attackers are fifth with eight points after six matches and Pioneers are at the bottom of the log after five matches with one point.

Eleven Attackers won the Stream A section of the Safa-Cacadu SAB Regional League for the 2008/2009 season.

As the winners of the league, they took part in a promotion/relegation match in May where they stood a chance of qualifying for the provincial league. However, Attackers lost the play-offs, but kept there place in the Cacadu league.

Other teams making up the Cacadu A Stream are Everton (Aberdeen), Mighty Forest (Port Alfred), Black Tigers (Alexandria) and Trymore (Somerset East).

The second round fixtures kick off this weekend, with all matches taking place on Sunday, 8 November. Eleven Attackers travel to Kenton-on-Sea where they face log leaders, Teenagers. Pioneers will play Black Tigers in Alexandria. Everton meat Mighty Forest in Aberdeen and Young Chiefs face Try More in Kenton-on-Sea.

The last of the fixtures take place on 20 February 2010, before the winners of Stream A and Stream B meet on 28 February to determine the overall Cacadu winner.
