Swallows Cricket Club continued their winning streak when they beat Salem Cricket Club by four wickets on Saturday in a Grahamstown Cricket Board 2nd league fixture.
Salem won the toss and decided to bat first. They got off to a slow start and lost their first wicket for 16 runs. Salem reached 175 all out in 42 overs. The attackers in chief for the Swallows were LeClue Smith (3 for 31), Luvane Daniels (2/22) and Conrad Slingers (2/43).
In reply Swallows lost an early wicket in the third over for 15 runs. A 40 run second wicket partnership between Edmund Jamieson and Luvane Daniels seemed to steady the run chase.
After Jamieson departed LeClue Smith came on and blasted the Salem bowlers to all parts of the field for a well deserved 44. His departure saw Swallows at 129 for 4 still just 47 runs to the win.
Swallows then lost another three wickets in quick succession. Elgin Kohl and Imran Marney managed to steer the team safely home with Kohl hitting some great shots which included his trademark flick for four to the square leg boundary. The Swallows are well on their way to defending their championship in the Central Albany League.
