The council’s budget and treasury portfolio committee meeting which was scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled due to lack of quorum as only one councillor had pitched up.

Makana senior administrator Unathi Nondzube reported that apologies for absence fom the meeting had been obtained from councillors Thuleka Ngeleza (ANC), Julie Wells (ANC), Thandeka Veliti (ANC) and Les Reynolds (Democratic Alliance). ANC Councillor Theo Fulani asked the committee’s chairperson Ntsikelelo Stamper to explain "the way forward" as the meeting had been already been postponed previously.
The meeting was originally scheduled for last Thursday but Stamper postponed because only two out of the eight councillors which make up the committee were in attendance. The two councillors were Fulani and Luyanda Nase from the ANC.

Fulani warned the council against "stalling service delivery" and emphasised that the meeting was supposed to discuss the city’s Integrated Development Plan, which is key to service delivery. "A message should be taken to the mayor throught the mayoral committee that we need to survey ourselves as this committee is not something to play with," he added.

Makana chief financial officer Jackson Ngcelwane suggested that the financial services directorate’s monthly reports be included in the agenda for next month’s committee meeting. He added that urgent issues such as deciding on property rate tarrifs and the proposed writing-off of arrear debts to the value of R20-million be taken to a special council meeting where all councillors will be present.
