Joel Santana has resigned (most likely to avoid the embarrassment of being fired) as coach of Bafana Bafana, just a few months ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. Now what? Who should take over the coaching reins, and how much should they be paid per month (Santana got R1.4m)? You tell us! Responses published below the form.

Responses:

Who? Someone local with global perspective – Lucas Radebe maybe? Anyone that is passionate and driven to do it the most.
Pay?
As little as possible – keep them hungry, and pay out bonuses for winning. Maybe a bit more than the players. Or nothing – cos they’re so amped to do it!
(Luke Hutchinson, Cape Town)

Who? Zwelinzima Vavi. It’s an obvious choice really. This is a man who orchestrates and motivates the best strikers in the world. And goodness knows we need some good strikers in the Bafana squad.
Pay ?
R25 000
(Ciro De Siena, Cape Town)

Who? Pitso Mosimane, because he has been working with the team and he is familiar with the squad. Hiring a new coach can only do more harm than anything else.
Pay? R10 000
(Simthembile, Grahamstown)

Who? Quentin Tarantino – can you imagine the team talks, he’ll psyche those bastards like nobody on this planet and base game strategy on his mal movie plots.
Pay? He’s loaded, he would do it for free
(Waleed Ajouhaar, Manenberg)

Who? Ppitso Mosimane….but I think Santana destroyed his reputation also… maybe Clive Barker can help – he did it before… never looking how his team is playing… having the power to choose any player he wants can help.
Pay? R1.2 million
(Moses Ngara, Pretoria)

Who? Julius Malema – He is so vociferous about who should be the replacement let him take up the challenge and hopefully this will shut him uop for good when he falls flat on his face.
Pay? Nothing
(Vince, London)

Who? Jomo Sono. The man has done it before, and he can still do it. He was a great player, and he knows exactly what to tell the players. You may disagree with me when I say that his own club is not performing very well because the man is stingy, but if we put him in charge of the national team he will be fine because he won’t be using his money. I say let’s take Mjomane.
Pay? R600 000
(Michael Mashau, Johannesburg)

Who? Jürgen Klinsmann.
Pay? 100 000 €
(Andreas Bader, Germany)

Who? Anyone but Jomo Sono. Reason? Well, just take a look at Cosmos!
Pay? Whatever, so long as it’s less than a million.
(Luvuyo, Cape Town)

Who? Actually, why bother with Bafana Bafana? Let’s just take the money and have a national braai day.
Pay?

Who? It should be someone South African, someone who is as embarrassed with Bafana’s losses!
Pay? R50 000
(Zibongi, Grahamstown)

Who? Gavin Hunt or Gordon Igesund. SAFA will always want to take short cuts and appoint a World Cup instead of a long-term coach.
Pay? R500 000
(Sibusiso Dhlamini, Johannesburg)

Who? I think that Gavin Hunt is the best man to take over as the head coach… yeah they can be the best to compete against the Europeans.
Pay? As much as Santana got
(Themba, Tembisa)

Who? I think Gavin Hunt and Clive Barker should be the next coaches of Bafana Bafana. No more foreigners.
Pay? R1.5m each
Ntsie, Ivory Park

Who? Gavin Hunt – invaluable experience with local soccer and the local boys
Pay? R1m
Lindsay, Johannesburg

Who? Sabo Ndongeni (me). No matter how good you are as a coach, Bafana Bafana players just don’t wanna play. You might as well sit there for nine games and lose eight. After that, pack your things and go. Start a business with that money!!!!!
Pay: R1.4m
Sabo, Grahamstown

Who? According to the bok coach who expressed that  its very difficult to hire a foreingn coach who doesnt comprehend the culture  of the country becouse he will be needed to learn a lot  in the team   especialy for joel santana who even doesnt understand english properly. Anyway  santana was not being known by everyone about his record, particulary in teams of international coaching. For me I recommend Jomo Sono since he did it before and have a win during his time.
Pay? Around R100 000
Philasande, East London
