The red carpet will be rolled out for the fourth annual documentary film festival by the fourth year TV Rhodes journalism students o Thursday.
On show will be documentaries investigating stories from Durban to Cape Town, as well as what’s happening in Grahamstown and even Scotland. If you have ever wondered about the pineapple sellers along the N2 and about the so-called ‘doctors’ handing out pamphlets on the street who claim to have the cure for impotence, you will find some of these answers and more at the film festival.
These stories are testiment to the hard-work and calibre of young television journalists in this country, and as such an Audience Choice Award has been introduced. The audience will get to vote for their favourite short-form and long-form films from between seven 5-minute individual documentaries as well as between three 24-minute documentaries and one 10-minute documentary. The latter long-form documentaries were produced in crews of three or four students, namely: Stu.D.Jo Productions made up by Stuart Buchanan, Danielle Brock and Jolanti Slomkowski; Under Construction Productions, made up by Michelle Solomon, Fathima Simjee and Lubabalo Dada; Crabapple Productions made up by Leila Dougan, Matthew van Abo, Azwihangwisi Mufamadi and Daniel Epstein; and Mass Productions made up by Matthew Edwards, Jade Fernley and Alna Dall.
Sparkling wine and light snacks will be served from 7 to 7.30pm. Please note the dress code is semi-formal.
