Bring out your bowler hat and high heels, Emile Minnie- composer and singer of contemporary compositions and popular cabaret music- will be performing in Grahamstown for one evening only.

On Saturday, 3 October, in collaboration with the DSG and St Andrew’s music schools, Minnie will sing French music that is part of the curriculum programme, followed by a short interval after which he will regale the audience with a programme of mainly French pieces which have stood the test of time. The concert will take place in the DSG Music Block hall (entrance through South Street into Worcester Street).

Well-known local songstress Laurika Rauch describes Minnie as one of the country’s best songwriters. She recently recorded three of his songs on her latest album, and both reviewers and the public agree that his songs are beautifuly rendered. The songster is now launching his new French album Chanson, breathing new life into old favourites such as Edith Piaf’s “La vie en rose” and “Je ne regrette rien”. Come and experience the charm of the French chanson, presented with Minnie’s typical energy and style.

His previous album, Nagmusiek was recently nominated for a South African Music Award for best alternative Afrikaans album, he was a runner-up in the Huisgenoot/You Songwriting Competition and was also a finalist in the World Song Contest.

For the upcoming performance he will combine French songs with favourites from his previous three albums, as well as give the audience a preview of his next album, “Supernova”, which will be released in January 2010.
