Members of Masibambane Boxing Club attended the Eastern Cape Boxing Championship in East London recently.

The young boxers started off in the Cadets (junior) Championships in Kerkwood where 44 boxers participated of which 22 were from Masibambane.

They were from Makana, Ndlambe and Sundays River and 16 boxers were picked from the whole Cacadu district.

They were from Makana, Ndlambe and Sundays River and 16 boxers were picked from the whole Cacadu district.

Four of the boxers returned with medals. Athenkosi Mahse received a bronze medal in the semi-final of the paperweight division while Sipho Mantla won a bronze in the finals of the same division.

Siphosethu Zingela bagged a silver medal in the finals of the spiderweight division as well as Siphosethu Landu  in the lightfly division with Mvuyisi Springbok receiving a bronze in the antweight division.

Masibambane also trains girls but has not have any matches for them yet. "We are organising a tournament for the girls in Port Alfred, hopefully in October," said Sakhiwo Duruwe, one of the trainers in the club.
