At 10am next Wednesday, the Grocott’s Mail Citizen Journalism Newsroom opens to the public. Many of you have visited Grocott’s before to pick up a newspaper, send a fax or to let us know about this or that. Now we’re inviting you to come in more often, because we’re giving you the opportunity to use our dedicated citizen journalism facilities to produce your own newsworthy content for publication on Grocott’s Mail Online and in Grocott’s Mail.
We know there are plenty of people in Grahamstown who have the eyes of a hawk and the ears of an elephant, and we also know that there’s loads of news that we simply can’t get around to covering, for practical reasons. So we’re inviting you to release the journalist in you, and come in and use our Citizen Journalism Newsroom to write stories, touch up your photos and submit them to us for publication.
Perhaps you’ve just snapped a picture or video on your phone of a building burning down, or maybe you’ve got some fantastic news you’d like to write about and share with Grahamstown. Simply come into Grocott’s, register as a Grocott’s Mail Citizen Journalist (it’s free!), and start using one of the 10 computers in the Citizen Journalism Newsroom to produce your story package.
Don’t worry about not being able to transfer photos from your phone or camera – we’ve got all the necessary equipment installed (namely card readers, Bluetooth dongles and USB cables) to take care of that. We’ll also have facilitators on hand who can help you with any aspect of producing your content – from using a word processor, to transferring and touching up your pictures, to uploading your final story to Grocott’s Mail Online.
The Grocott’s Mail Citizen Journalism Newsroom will be open from 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday. We encourage you to seize this opportunity to let your voice be heard!
