The 10th annual Kat Mountain Bike Challenge took place in Fort Beaufort over the past weekend. Johan Conradie and Dave Hanton, who took part in the Trans Baviaans 230km mountain bike race a week earlier, finished the Kat together and were the first locals home in 3:50:16 and 3:50:17 respectively.
The 10th annual Kat Mountain Bike Challenge took place in Fort Beaufort over the past weekend. Johan Conradie and Dave Hanton, who took part in the Trans Baviaans 230km mountain bike race a week earlier, finished the Kat together and were the first locals home in 3:50:16 and 3:50:17 respectively.
It was the ninth time around for Conradie and there were 59 finishers altogether.Organisers say that this year’s event had the best weather conditions to date.
The race started in cool conditions which were slightly colder at the top of Fort Fordyce, with the sun shining at times, a first for the race. Last year’s event took part in very misty conditions, while previous years have been very windy.
There were a number of prize winners in the shorter 35km event, with the first local home being Jason Meaton who won the prize for the third local home.
Peter Britz was the first master, while Terri-Lynn Penney was first woman finisher and the first in the sub veteran (age 30-39) category.
Trevor Amos was the second veteran (40-49) home, while Kerry Longhurst was the third woman and second sub veteran. There were 72 finishers in the 35km event.
