Red, white, and blue were the colours of the day when Algoa FM held a luncheon to hand over cheques in Port Elizabeth last Friday.

Algoa FM received R500 000 to distribute among five charities, one of these being our very own Grahamstown Area Distress Relief Association, also known as Gadra.
 
Gadra manager Pauline Mitchell said, "This is fantastic. It did not even take that much energy because all we had to do was go to the internet and click."
 
Gadra, which was given R100 000, plans to buy a bakkie and "for the past two weeks we have been looking at bakkies but we do not want to rush as we are looking for the best," according to Mitchell.
 
She also added, "We are very happy, more people know about us now. Even the band is getting publicity." The band, Siboneni Marimba Band, offered entertainment at the event and the programme director was Algoa FM’s Charl Leslie.
 
Algoa jams to ‘Single ladies’ 
Algoa FM won a competition in which radio stations around South Africa had to create their own music video to Beyonce’s "Single Ladies" song which all Algoa FM staff members participated in the making of the video.
 
 "Our gratitude goes to the listeners of Algoa FM and we are happy for the charities that are benefiting from this. The Vodacom Radio Challenge was all about dancing. It’s not about the challenge but about the spirit with which one faces the challenge," said Vodacom managing executive Carol Hall before handing over the cheques.
 
The event started on a high note when the audience was treated to a show of the winning video, which was created by Blue Chilli Productions.
