Hoërskool PJ Olivier hosted Hoërskool Wesbank from East London in various netball, hockey and rugby matches over the weekend.

The matches coincided with the school’s reunion weekend, and this was the first time that the two schools had met in these sports codes.

Wesbank is similar to PJ in that it is also a combined school, although they have 800 pupils from Grade R to Grade 12 compared to PJ’s 400 pupils.

Wesbank headmaster, Tom Dreyer is a PJ old boy and matriculated in 1974, the principal of PJ, Piet Snyders said this is one of the reasons why they decided to play Wesbank on their reunion weekend.

Snyders said the day’s fixtures went very well and the two schools plan to meet up in various sporting matches again next year. He said he is happy with his school’s results, adding that they did not expect to win most of the matches.

In the various 1st team matches, the 1st netball game ended in a 14-14 draw, while the 1st hockey also ended in a draw, 3-3. The PJ 1 st rugby side won their match 13-12.

All the results:Rugby – U9 PJ won 17-5, U11 PJ lost 10-17, U13 PJ won 35-0, U15 PJ won 39-10, 1sts PJ won 13-12.
Netball – U9 PJ won 8-5, U10 PJ lost 1-5, U11 PJ won 2-0, U12 drew 8-8, U13 PJ won 6-3, U16 PJ won 9-8, 1sts drew 14-14.Hokey – 1sts drew 3-3.
