Top Grahamstown extreme sportsman, Bradley Stephenson will leave for Australia on 6 August where he will train with the American moguls team and compete in the Australia New Zealand Continental Cup.

Stephenson is hoping to earn enough points at the Continental Cup to be able to enter the World Cup in Europe in December. This will then make him eligible for the Winter Olympic selection.

Stephenson finished his June exams at Rhodes University before working and training at Tiffindell Ski Resort. He then competed in the King’s Cup snowboarding and skiing event at Afriski, a ski resort in Lesotho. He entered the alpine racing events, slalom skiing and snowboarding, and which he does not specialise in, for fun.

He made it through to the finals of the snowboarding slalom and lost to his coach, Alex Heath, by a short distance. Heath has taken part in the past three Olympics in the slalom event, which is his speciality.
Stephenson gave a freestyle skiing demonstration for the crowd.

In between the various competitions this year, Stephenson will complete the academic year at Rhodes.
While his attempt for the Winter Olympics is a long way away he says he is highly motivated and says his chances of making it “look good”.
