The Clover 10km road race, which was also the Eastern Province 10km championships, took place in Port Elizabeth on Saturday.
Although it was a good chance for a number of Grahamstown’s talented locals to show off their speed and stand a chance of being selected for the Eastern Province 10km team, not many locals took part.

Although it was a good chance for a number of Grahamstown’s talented locals to show off their speed and stand a chance of being selected for the Eastern Province 10km team, not many locals took part.
The large prize did, however, attract runners from across the country, with Gauteng runners winning both the overall men’s and women’s titles.
The first Grahamstown runner home was top veteran (40 to 49 age category) runner, Carriot Galela of Run/Walk For Life Athletics Club, who finished in 36 minutes 38 seconds and who was the seventh veteran home. Terri-Lynn Penney (Run/Walk For Life) was the first local woman home and the fifth EP runner with her time of 40:52.
Overall winner was Tshamano Setone of Nedbank Running Club, Central Gauteng (29:01), while Poppy Mlambo of Nedbank Gauteng was the women’s winner in 34:54. Meanwhile, the Eastern Province Cross-Country Championships takes place at St Albans in Port Elizabeth on 8 August.
There will be various distance races split into various age categories, with the first events starting at 9am, with the senior men’s 12km and the category men’s 8km. The final race, the men’s and women’s open and U21 4km events, take place at 12.20pm.
