Andile Faltein, a former teacher at East Cape Midlands College, has been accused of assaulting one of his former female students on a drunken night out in August last year.

Andile Faltein, a former teacher at East Cape Midlands College, has been accused of assaulting one of his former female students on a drunken night out in August last year.

Both Faltein and the complainant, Zimasa Peter, appeared in court on Tuesday 14 July, but only Peter took to the stand. Apparently Peter’s friend approached Faltein to ask him if he would give the group of girls a lift home from Albany Lounge.

According to the alleged victim, Faltein obliged, but when the students asked Faltein to let them out, he just continued driving. As they approached Raglan Road, the students shouted for Faltein to let them out. Before they could get out of the vehicle, they had to wake Faltein’s colleague as he was passed out on the backseat of the car.

The witness said that when Faltein stopped the car to let the students out, he started insulting them and said he would beat them. This is when he got out of the car and allegedly started assaulting Peter and her friend. Faltein has denied these accusations and says that he “never set foot in Albany Lounge” on the night in question and that he was with his colleague the entire night, believed to be the same person that was lying passed out in the car.

Faltein’s attorney, Mzuphela Yeko, requested that Peter’s testimony not be taken seriously as she had been consuming alcohol on the night and her memory may not have been accurate. Peter, in turn, called Faltein a liar and reconfirmed her statement. Faltein will appear in court again on 27 July.
