The 2009 edition of the U18 Coca-Cola Craven Week kicks off on Monday 13 July at the Border Rugby Union Stadium in East London.

The 2009 edition of the U18 Coca-Cola Craven Week kicks off on Monday 13 July at the Border Rugby Union Stadium in East London.

Four Grahamstown learners will represent the Eastern Province Country District side as 22 teams participate in this year’s U18 event. Each of the 14 regions are represented with one team with the exception of the Blue Bulls, Border, Eastern Province and Griquas, that will be sending two sides to the tournament.

The local players in the side are Grant Prior, Brain Skosana, Robin Murray (all St Andrew’s) and Jade Bowles (Graeme). James Price (St Andrew’s) who was also part of the side, has withdrawn due to tearing ligaments in his knee during the St Andrew’s and Kingswood derby match. Stefan Lourens, director of rugby at St Andrew’s is team manager.

The U18 Craven Week will also have competing teams from Namibia, Zimbabwe, LSEN and the SA Academy, that will make the 22 sides that will participate in the East London event.The Eastern Province side is representative of Port Elizabeth school players, with many from Grey High School, while the EP Country District side is filled with players from the out-of-Port Elizabeth players, with many from Marlow Agricultural High School.

The EP Country Districts’ first match is against the Leopards today.
