"To me it’s not about the crown, but the joy that I can bring to somebody," says Little Miss Eastern Cape, Chimone Killian. Killian, a Grade 8 pupil at Hoërskool PJ Olivier, is referring to the charity work she has performed as part of being crowned.

Killian said that when she visited the patients and residents of Fort England and Brookshaw Old Age home recently, she really enjoyed interacting with them. "They don't need fancy things, they just need time with you." Her visits were greeted with smiles. "I saw people were happy to see me, which made me happy." On both occasions, she handed out flowers sponsored by Pick n Pay.

In the following week she visited Nokwandile Pre-School in Extension 6, Joza where she donated two bags filled with toys."The smiles on their faces made it all worthwhile," says Killian's mother, Carol, who had accompanied her. "Chimone enjoyed these events tremendously as she has a passion for the elderly and the children," says her proud mother.

Easter saw her handing out Easter eggs to the Settler’s Hospital Children's Ward, which was greatly enjoyed by the children and hospital staff.
Killian says she wants her charity work to focus more on children.

"My next big project will involve the SPCA, because I absolutely love animals.” Killian also wishes to focus on people affected by HIV/Aids. She says she will continue with charity events until November when she has to hand over her crown to the next little princess.

The blonde beauty took to the runway in 2006, and has participated and won numerous national and international competitions such as Miss Photogenic and Miss Junior SA in 2006, and Miss Everlanche and Miss Winter in 2007.

"My mom is a big supporter as she's even sent me to participate in the 2006 Miss Teen World." She added that her father was not too keen at first, but she stood her ground and as a straight A student she kept her school work up to standard.

Killian speaks with great excitement about taking part in Cover Search, "the biggest model search, attended by model scouts from all over the world," in Pretoria last year. Cover Search is a platform to expose the abilities of models to decision-makers within the modelling, fashion and television industries.

"Over 300 people participated and there were bright lights and everything," says Killian.

However, she was quite taken aback to see thirteen-year-olds dressed in heavy makeup and high heels. "I managed to make it to the top five dressed in my Levis jeans, sneakers and a white top. People couldn't believe it." She adds that she made it because, “I was just myself."
