he Drama department was mobbed by hundreds of veterans and first-time voters. Spirits were high despite the frosty weather. Even though long queues were the order of the day, the voting process was carried out peacefully and police presence was not needed. The IEC reported that over 1777 cast their vote at the Rhodes Drama department out of over 3200 voters registered for that polling station. "We are so tired,” said the presiding officer, “I woke up at 3.30am this morning." In the face of the long day voters emerged triumphant with their left thumbs inked, showing their contribution to exercising their democratic right.
