A delegation from Makana municipality is in Cote d’Ivoire to explore "twinning possibilities". The party is made up of mayor Phumelelo Kate, council speaker Rachel Madinda, Municipal Manager Ntombi Baart and economic development director Riana Meiring.

The delegation made the trip to the city of Lakota last week after the council resolved in September to allow Kate to investigate possible relations between Makana Municipality and that city. According to the municipality’s website, the twinning seeks to promote bilateral relations and possible co-operation "in the fields of economics and trade, sport and culture, agriculture, tourism, staff development exchanges and food production".

Lakota produces cocoa, sweet bananas, raw latex, peanuts and coffee. About 90% of Lakota land is covered in thick forest which produces wood for furniture and building.

The government of Cote d’Ivoire has committed itself to cover expenses such as transportation, accommodation and meals during the trip. The delegation is expected to return to the City of Saints tomorrow.
