The inaugural Grahamstown Games took place over the past weekend, attracting Grahamstown’s fittest and not so fit, CrossFit enthusiasts. Participants, in teams of four, had to first take on an obstacle course, with a heavy looking barbell weight. It was then onto the BootCamp workout and indoor rowing. This was followed by the running and cycling disciplines. Mary Waters and Nathaniel Nyaluza were on Saturday crowned the Albany High Schools Rugby League champions after winning the U15 and U18 finals respectively. This is the second edition of the Albany High Schools Rugby league. The U15 league also forms part of the South African Rugby Union (SARU) and South African Rugby Legends Vuka programme which is aimed at the promotion of rugby in disadvantaged communities and areas where it is not being played. Former Kingswood College pupil, Taryn-Maie Wille won gold at the 2017 ITU Multisport World Championship Festival in Penticton, Canada this week. The world multisports champs started last Friday and continues until Sunday. Wille was selected to participate in the cross-triathlon (off-road) event (age group 20-24) which took place on Wednesday. She won the 20-24 age category which a 1.5km swim, 31km mountain bike ride and 8km run.
