A number of hall secretaries at Rhodes University fear for their jobs after their job profiles were restructured. The process started last year after hall wardens complained that they could no longer cope with their daily jobs and responsibilities.

THE police has released a photograph of a key suspect linked to the gang who shot and killed businessman Juan Jansen (33) in Kenton-on-Sea in November last year. The photograph was released for the public to help identify the man who is believed to be living in the Eastern Cape.
Grahamstown’s water supply is running out and the water restrictions implemented since September do not seem to be helping, according to municipal spokesperson Thandy Matebese. He believes that residents are not taking the water situation seriously and the R200 fine in place for offenders is not enough of a deterrent.

A 41-year old male was arrested on Sunday after selling stolen jewellery and his false teeth to support his drug habit. The crime was discovered when a woman visiting her sister in Grahamstown returned home to Port Elizabeth and unpacked only to find that three gold rings with precious stones and an antique necklace were missing.
Three cars were involved in an accident early Tuesday morning, causing a major traffic jam on the N2 between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown. PE Police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge reported that the drivers suffered slight injuries. “There may be a charge of negligent driving,” he said.
On Wednesday afternoon a fire broke out at small municipal rubbish dump off Worcester Street near Worcester Mews. Rhodes University staff and the Grahamstown fire brigade battled to fight the blaze in the hot and humid weather.
