On 12 September, Aarnout Brombacher ran a series of workshops with Mathematics teachers and educators from the broader Grahamstown area. Aarnout is the former head of the Mathematics Department at Westerford High School in Rondebosch, Cape Town and a past president of Amesa, the Association for Mathematics Education of South Africa.
Community development workers, Ward 5 councillor Xolani Simakuhle and people from the local Aids Council paid a visit to the victims of the fire in Phaphamani on Monday. They donated various items including blankets, baby clothes, groceries and important documents. The various organisations were also accompanied by Robert Brooks from the fire department.

The Albany Resource and Development Agency Centre in Eluxolweni was buzzing with activity on Tuesday as people gathered for a consumer housing workshop. Johan Carinus Art School launched its annual prizegiving exhibition on Wednesday night. The exhibition, which showcases the work of local school pupils who have excelled in a variety of mediums is "the highlight of the school calender" according to Carinus principal Virginia Reed.
