Grahamstown youths Brendan Marais and Andrew du Toit not only represented Eastern Province at the SA Shore Angling Association’s Junior nationals recently, but were promoted to national sides after the event.
Grahamstown youths Brendan Marais and Andrew du Toit not only represented Eastern Province at the SA Shore Angling Association’s Junior nationals recently, but were promoted to national sides after the event.
Marais competed with EP U21 side, while Du Toit represented EP U16 at the championships held in KwaZulu-Natal from 23-25 January.
Marais finished fifth overall on the U21 side as well as winning the award for the Most Outstanding Catch for his 41kg Honeycomb Ray, which was also the heaviest non-edible fish caught during the tournament.
At the end of the competition a Springbok and President’s side were selected from the provincial participants.
Marais was selected for the President’s side as well as a first reserve for the Springbok U21 side. Du Toit was chosen to be a member of the U16 President’s side.
