It saddens me that the province is experiencing such heavy rains. We have been trying as the municipality to move around assisting communities, especially the Grahamstown East area. The Community and Social Development team and Disaster Management have been to these communities to attend this challenge of a disaster.
We are asking people from our community, the churches and businesses to work with us in helping our communities, he said.
The mayor also asked director of Technical and Infrastructure Services Thembinkosi Myalato to ascertain from the Department of Roads and Transport how soon the road between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown, which was damaged by the flooding, would be reopened.
