Christmas came early for children at the Pumpkin Patch Day care Centre in Hlalani Location as they were visited and showered with Christmas presents by Democratic Alliance (DA) councillors and caucus leaders on Friday.
Hlalani was abuzz as children from Pumpkin Patch and Samuel Ntsiko gathered excitedly to see father Christmas arriving in his donkey cart as he drove up into Hlalani.
Ward 12 Councillor, Xolani Madyo said that the blue-shirted DA councillors wanted to put a smile on the children’s face as some of them will not be fortunate enough to even receive a present during the festive season.
“We know that when you give gifts to children, the parents cherish those gifts until Christmas comes,” he said.
Madyo said that the day care centre should never hesitate to ask for help from them in times of need. “We are not promising to do much but we want to say to the parents that whatever the creche is doing, we as the DA are with you,” he said.
Supervisor of the day care, Busisiwe Booi said they were very thankful to the party for taking care and checking up on them now and again. “When Father Christmas rode up the street I found myself crying tears of joy because I know how much this means to my kids,” she said
Booi further added that the DA has done so much for their day care for the past three years like helping to fence the yard and provide place cards from their campaign for their ceiling.
Booi also shared words of gratitude to Madyo for being her pillar of strength and inspiration throughout the years.
“There were times when I was dealing with a lot of challenges here at work and would often think of quitting but Xolani’s life story and words of encouragement encouraged me to do the best that I can and to be strong,” she said.
Sibongile Plaatjie, whose child goes to the day care, spoke on behalf of the parents and Pumpkin Patch.
She said that they are overwhelmed with gratitude: “The Bible says that blessed is the hand that giveth than the hand that taketh so we thank you from the bottom of our hearts and I see that this is a continuation of greater things to come,” she enthused.
