Rugby fortunes varied for Grahamstown schools this past weekend, but Graeme College delivered a famous victory.
They hosted Grey, with the U16A game deemed the 'match of the day' by the Graeme staff. Both teams had players missing due to Eastern Province rugby trials, but the Graeme side, which has done well all season, seemed to have less disruption to their rhythm.
They played well to earn themselves a superb result – winning 22-10 and claiming a big scalp in the process. It was a tough contest from the outset and Graeme only led 10-5 at half-time.
In the first team game fortunes were slightly different. The Grey 1sts were too good for the young Graeme side and the visitors won 52-14.
Kingswood travelled to Port Rex with a very different looking side as seven of their usual starting XV were at the final Eastern Province (EP) Trials. However, after leading 17-13 at half-time, Kingswood went on to dominate the second half to win 49-20.
St Andrew’s College played their Reunion weekend fixtures against Selborne on Lower Field.
They had less good fortune than their fellow Grahamstown teams and lost 17-26.
