Riebeeck East police are investigating a case of murder after a young woman was killed, allegedly by her boyfriend, on Monday 16 March.

Grahamstown area police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said a post mortem would be conducted to confirm suspected strangulation.

"The suspect is in hospital in a critical condition after ingesting a liquid deemed harmful," Govender said.

No arrests have been made, according to Govender.

The incident took place in Riebeeck East's Nomzamo township.
