The weather for Valentine's Day in Grahamstown is predicted to be comfortably warm and dry.

The weather for Valentine's Day in Grahamstown is predicted to be comfortably warm and dry.

Which is good news for two wonderful home-grown outdoor events that you really shouldn't miss.

    Community Love Picnic

Hang out on the Fingo Multipurpose Centre lawns opposite Fingo Square for a Valentine's Day with a difference this year – and contribute to a worthwhile Arts cause.

With jumping castles for abantwana and games for the whole family, the vibe promises to be festive, fun and loving in the best possible way.

Donations at the gate or money from pre-bought tickets will contribute toward the Fingo Fest Children's Programme during the National Arts Festival later this year.

More at info@fingofestival.co.za or Inbox the Fingo Festival page on Facebook.

    Scifest on show

If it's science and discovery that get you heart racing, go to Pick n Pay mall on Valentine's Day, where the Scifest Africa 2015 Mall Promotion team will be introducing the fantastic Festival programme and performing a number of fun/hands-on science demos.

    Come and see:

    • Hologram mirrors

    • Burning money

    • Bed of nails

    • Control in a bottle

    • pH testing

    • Elephant’s toothpaste

    • Quick chemical reactions

    • Vortex bottles

    • Lava lamps

    • Measurements

    Mr and Miss Valentine

Head down to BB Zondani Hall around 1pm on Saturday 14 February, where Dakkie Yam Studios will host a beauty contest.

The event promises good entertainment for the whole family, with various live performances.

The dress code is red and white and the best outfit could win you a Valentine's Day gift. A poet's love

Finally, settle down to read this unconventional Valentine's Day poem by Grahamstown poet Chris Mann.

It's from his collection, Rudiments of Grace, which is due to be launched in Grahamstown next month.
