What is the ANC's Agenda for Makana? I am asking this question because I am convinced Makana Municipality is their guinea pig.
They seem to have an agenda not to fix this municipality, but to make it worse.
Confidential sources say the appointment of municipal manager could still be a dream in the next few weeks.
This should be the last month of administrator Pam Yako's term, but by the looks of things, if she goes, it could be the end of this council.
This week I was enlightened during an interview with ANC secretary Oscar Mabuyane. He was clear that the ANC is the one that decided on the intervention and they are sure that it is working very well.
I was shocked to hear that the next day after his long interview with Grocott's Mail, some ANCs bigwigs came to Makana Municipality.
This visit was reportedly to tell Yako whom she should appoint as municipal manager.
Actually, it was not shocking because it's clear who really is in power in this council. Factions between the ANC councillors in Makana have also led to this collapse according to Mabuyane.
But a fish rots from the head.
There is no way we are going to believe that the ANC is making strides to fix Makana.
We never bought that story and will not start now. This interference in the appointment of the MM is what happened when the same council led by Mayor Zamuxolo Peter agreed to bring back Pravine Naidoo.
Just to refresh your memory, Naidoo was appointed in April 2013 as municipal manager.
By June of that year, he was going to court to solicit a 'settlement' for himself, because he believed he was unfairly dismissed in 2010.
The rest is history – for now, at least.
Now we hear that the former municipal manager of Ndlambe municipality George Ngesi is the candidate the ruling party wants to occupy the same position in Makana.
Ngesi was suspended in 2009 in connection with the disappearance of 39 rented laptop computers in Ndlambe.
How would we be so gullible as to believe change is happening in this municipality?
It is not happening and in my opinion I think people should start thinking about the fact that this municipality is in ICU.
