The police have made an urgent appeal for anyone who knows the whereabouts of the family of Mandla Fredricks, 11, to contact them.
Police spokesperson Milanda Coetzer said Mandla (in the photo) was dropped off by a taxi at the Committees police station.
The 11-year-old child said he had been to visit his aunt in King William’s Town. He reported that his mother, Bongiwe Busakwe, lives in Port Elizabeth and is a teacher in Grahamstown.
However, police checked the Port Elizabeth address the child gave and it did not exist. Neither were the police able to trace his mother through the Department of Education.
Coetzer said the police in Committees had exhausted all avenues in trying to contact the child's relatives.
The police have asked anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Mandla's mother, or any member of his family, to urgently contact Captain George Green at 082 442 3685.
