Her task is to put infrastructure development on track, including the city's dilapidated roads, waste management, water and electricity infrastructure. She's here to put into place the provision of basic services, and tidy up financial management and administration.
This includes credit and debt control and the development of a financial recovery plan. Yako, along with Mayor Zamuxolo Peter, said this during a meeting with stakeholders on Friday 21 November about key challenges facing the municipality.
The Kabuso forensic report and infrastructure topped the list of major concerns, along with potholes, mismanaged municipal funds and continual breakdowns in infrastructure.
One of the solutions proposed was the removal of the mayor, before the municipality collapsed completely. Also raised by the stakeholders was the fact that there is no broadband in the township and that the municipality does not have anyone responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of work being done.
The lack of initiative from those in management showed in the work being done around town. Yako, who listened and took notes throughout the meeting, promised she would look at the challenges raised.
She called upon stakeholders to join forces with the municipality in restoring the image of Makana and helping make Makana a "Great Place to be".
