Makana Boxing Organisation (Makabo) had another successful tournament Saturday 25 October in their monthly boxing tournaments.
Boxing clubs from Peddie, Glenmore and Middledrift correctional services were in the ring at the Indoor Sports Centre to gain valuable boxing lessons in the amateur ranks.
Thirteen bouts of cadets and juniors took place, producing four knockouts and three draws, with the remainder going to the judges’ scorecards. In the youth and elite division there were nine bouts in total.
The division proved to be well balanced for the boxers as there was only a single knock-out and one draw. Seven of the fights had to be separated by the judges in a points system.
The monthly tournaments give Makana boxers an opportunity to build their expertise.
The Eastern Cape Amateur Boxing Organisation (Ecabo) is continually on the lookout for amateur boxers to participate in their tournaments.
One such boxer, whose talents have not gone unnoticed by Ecabo, is Zukiswa Skeyi from Masibambane Boxing Club.
The young woman currently is taking part in a tournament staged by the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, the Eastern Cape Sports Council and Ecabo.
The tournament, aimed at promoting boxing in the Makana municipality, hosted delegates from Lower Saxony in Germany this past weekend.
