The Department of Energy announced sharp decreases in the prices of petrol, diesel, Illuminating paraffin and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) today.
The new prices come into effect from Wednesday 3 September, the department said in a media release. Petrol (both grades) will decrease by 67.0 cent a litre.
Diesel will decrease by 25.38 cents a litre. Illuminating paraffin will decrease by 25 cents a litre and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) will decrease by 108 cents a kilogram.
The reasons for the decreases are mainly due to the drop in the price of crude oil, the department said, leading to a decrease in the prices of petroleum products in the international markets, and the stability of the Rand against the US Dollar (on average) compared to the previous period.
In addition the Department has decreased the slate levy from 4.38 c/l to zero.
