A case of kidnapping and pointing a firearm has been opened by the Grahamstown Police, after one of two women who were abducted while hitch-hiking was found on Monday afternoon, spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said.
Govender told Grocott’s Mail that one of the women sent a text to her parents stating that she fears that they had been abducted.
In the message she also said that there was a firearm in the vehicle, which confirmed her fears.
The information from the female who made it back to safety in Grahamstown is that the woman is being held hostage.
“We are taking statements at the moment," Govender said. "While she was there, they were talking about raping the woman, then they left and went out into town. She managed to convince the abductor to please let her go."
It is not clear what the kidnappers are planning to do with the victim as there is still no word from them, Govender said. The woman is being held hostage in the Beaufort area, she said.
The police urge anyone with information that could lead to the kidnappers arrest to come forward.
