The Grahamstown Business Forum (GBF) kick-started its 2014 programme with a breakfast meeting at the Graham Hotel on Wednesday to discuss issues surrounding car guards, car washers and crime in the CBD.
The police, Rhodes University, Hi Tec and others joined the business community TO discuss the problem after last year's initiatives and the placing of signage failed to meet with much success.
GBF president Eugene Repinz said that "great strides" had initially been made in removing car guards and car washers from the streets at the beginning of 2013, but that since then "the problem has gotten increasingly worse".
A strategic planning committee meeting to further discuss the car guard and car wash issues has been scheduled for May.
"The committee members have all committed to play their part," Repinz said.
