This follows President Jacob Zuma's signing a proclamation setting 7 May 2014 as the date for the National Assembly elections.
IEC Provincial spokesperson Pearl Ngoza told Grocott's Mail that on the day of proclamation, the voters' roll would officially close at 5pm.
President Zuma signed the document on Friday 21 February 2014. The Presidency also announced that in terms of Section 2A of the Public Holiday Act, 1994, the President has also declared 7 May 2014 as a public holiday.
The Premiers of the provinces are expected to issue proclamations calling and setting 7 May 2014 as the date for the Provincial Legislature elections in their respective provinces.
According to a government media statement, the election date proclamation will be published in the Government Gazette on 25 February 2014. According to Section 24(1) of the Electoral Act, 1998, the voters' roll will close on the day it is gazetted.
"The proclamation has not yet been done, but once it has been proclaimed then the voters' roll will close at 5pm," Ngoza said.

Voters who are already registered can check their registration details, including which voting station they are registered at, by SMSing their ID number to 32810.
