Healthy rivalry between old frontier families heated up on Saturday 21 September in the bi-annual Salem Settler Family 6-A-Side cricket tournament.
The Amms beat the Fords in the day's final. It was the 18th edition of the competition. Chasing down 73 runs made by the Amms, the Fords could only manage 60.
Saturday was the first time that the Fords played in the 6-A-Side tournament.
Playing for the Amms were Peter, Simon, Richard, Ian, David and David. The Fords team consisted of Mark, Michael, Chris, Jonny, Ben, Ross and John.
The King family took third place, followed by the Brothertons (4th), Biggs (5th), Hobsons (6th), Emslies (7th) and Wilmots (8th).
A trophy donated by the Brotherton family in memory of Gary Emslie was awarded to Ben Ford for 'Most Deserving Cricket'. The Batting Prize for the most runs went to Murray Hobson who made a total of 83 runs.
Michael Ford won the Bowling Prize for the best average, while the Ian Long Trophy for the Best Bowler went to Chris Ford.
Murray Hobson scored the highest number of runs in a single game with 55. Cuan King and Mark Ford shared the Best Catch of the Day.
The Hobsons won the potjiekos competition.
