Police have warned that car thieves operating in Grahamstown are still targeting older models.
Police spokesperson Captain Mali Govender said, "Older model vehicles are still a target, including Toyotas, Hondas and Mazdas."
She said several vehicles had been stolen in and around the Rhodes University campus recently.
"Although we have arrested suspects in connection with motor vehicle thefts, vehicles are still being stolen," she said.
She appealed to students to ensure their vehicles are locked and the all the doors and windows are closed when they park.
Govender advised drivers not to leave valuables in the vehicle and to park in well-lit areas. She also advised owners of older-model vehicles to invest in security devices such as gear locks and steering locks.
