After just six months on the job the municipality's chief financial officer is resigning, leaving Makana once again without a director of budget and treasury.
Spokesperson Mncedisi Boma confirmed yesterday afternoon that Deochand Sahibdeen had resigned.
Sahibdeen was appointed in December after the municipality had struggled without a chief financial officer for more than a year.
The position is regarded as crucial to the municipality following a series of bad audit reports.
Since December the municipality had for the first time in more than a year enjoyed a full complement of directors.
Other positions filled in recent months were those of community and social services (Mandisi Planga) and corporate services (Mzukisi Madlavu) and the municipal manager (Pravine Naidoo).
According to Boma, Sahibdeen cited personal reasons for his resignation.
"We can safely confirm that indeed the rumour about the CFO's resignation is true," Boma told Grocott's Mail on Tuesday 16 July.
"I can also confirm that the MM received a letter of resignation from the CFO citing personal reasons."
Boma said Sahibdeen would remain in his position until the end of this month. Sahibdeen said, "At this stage I cannot comment."
