It is day three of Schools Fest, and not a dull moment has gone by. The excitement and cheer that filled the first two days has carried over until now, and in full force.
It is day three of Schools Fest, and not a dull moment has gone by. The excitement and cheer that filled the first two days has carried over until now, and in full force.
The students strolled down to Eden Grove, singing energetically (and in harmony), to the first lecture of the morning. They were treated to a lecture about storytelling, narrated to them by Jenine Collocott.
The day did not end there though. Their last show of the day was HOSS presented by the UBOM! Eastern Cape Drama Company.
The play placed the Eastern Cape firmly in a very wild Wild West setting, bringing together traditional isiXhosa values, Texan cowboy attire and accents and a lot of laughing.
Think of any Clint Eastwood film, place it in the Eastern Cape and there you will have Hoss. The high schoolers loved the show, laughing hysterically and some even falling over on to their friends.
Closing the second to last day, Hoss was the perfect way to start drawing a close to the festival. Some students could not help but express their disappointment in the prospect of Schools Fest coming to an end.
“The productions I’ve been exposed to have really changed me, they’ve made me think about what I want to do in my life,” says Khaya T. Gould, a York High School student. “I wish it could just go on.”
But, despite the sadness that lingers in the air, the pupils still remain upbeat about their time here.
“We’ve had a great time here, it’s been entertaining. We’ve stepped out of our comfort zones, it’s been really nice,” says Kibidi Neocosmos and London Visser, both students from Pretoria Boys’ High School.
