A miner’s story told through music and humour, Cracked Mirror depicts a society deteriorating without much care for a reflection of conscience.
An energetic production, it reflects on the rise of wildcat strikes by miners and the notoriety of xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
It doesn’t let us forget that SA has been sustained by the contribution of migrant workers over the years however, and survived off the largesse of neighbouring countries during exilic years.
Ngesi and the Cracked Mirror team all hail from Port Elizabeth.
The show was one of six involved a new partnership between the National Arts Festival, Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council and the Port Elizabeth Opera House.
These productions, Truck Driver; Cracked Mirror; Monologues in 1st Gear; Monologues in 2nd Gear; Mawawa, A Florist and Sleeping Dogs were all on the Main programme this Festival.
The last one was on Wednesday 3 July.
