As we wrap up Heritage and Tourism Month, Makana Tourism invites all community members to take part in a new survey, a step toward developing a more inclusive, community-led tourism strategy that benefits everyone in our region.

According to Makana Tourism Director Prudence Mini, this survey is “A Call to All in Makana.” Mini says: “Tourism in the Makana region,  from Makhanda to surrounding villages, holds incredible potential. But not everyone feels included or represented in that story. To build a more inclusive, sustainable, and locally-driven tourism sector, we need your voice.”

    Why your voice matters

This survey is designed to give every resident– from the heart of Makhanda to the most remote village– a seat at the table.

Here’s what it aims to achieve:

    • Understand local awareness & access
Many locals are unaware of attractions located just 5–20 km from their homes. Your input will help us identify which areas need more promotion and easier access.

    • Expose urban–rural gaps
Tourism is often concentrated in Makhanda. We want to hear from people in villages, farms, and smaller towns — how do you see your role in tourism, and how can we include you better?

    • Grow local participation
Tourism isn’t just for outsiders. It can benefit local families, small businesses, crafters, storytellers, and young people. We want to build tourism with you, not just around you.

    • Improve communication
Should we be using WhatsApp, community radio, or school networks to talk about tourism? Your feedback will shape how we communicate more effectively with you.

    • Launch campaigns that reflect all of Makana
With your ideas, we can uncover and promote hidden gems across the entire region — not just the “usual” tourist stops. Help shape the next big tourism campaign!

    • Bring power to the AGM
Your responses will inform the next chapter of the Makana Tourism Office and help ensure it reflects the needs and dreams of everyone in our region.

    How to participate

Click the link below to complete the survey and share your voice. It only takes a few minutes  and your feedback could shape the future of tourism in Makana!

As a thank you, one lucky participant will be randomly selected to win an unforgettable overnight stay for two at Temba Game Reserve; including breakfast, dinner, and an exciting game drive, all valued at R7 000!
